The spinal column not only carries and supports the upper body and the head all the nerve cords run inside, protected by the spinal column, supplying the internal organs and limbs with nerves.

The
displacement of a vertebra, a disease or even damage can therefore have direct effects on internal organs or limbs via the nerve cords running through it.
There are however also connections known empirically from practice which cannot be explained anatomically due to the connection via nerve cords although these are by far in the minority.
